Petrol-heads of the world unite to exhaust YouTube in search of the latest news on what’s cooking under the bonnet, or in the world of car design or for some plain old rare old classic car nostalgia.

Here’s the Dumfries MOT Centre lowdown on some of the best motoring content on YouTube…

Scottish Car Clan

Grant Davidson runs this channel that’s sparkier than brand new plugs. It does what it says on the tin, with lots of engaging content focusing on the car scene in Scotland, including advice for car buyers, as well as informative videos, such as which so-called bargain cars to avoid and which cars are deemed too reliable. Who knew? Or how does one on the latest diesel used-car value surge grab you?

Emelia Hartford

If you build it, they will come. And this is what Emelia excels at – car builds, with a focus on high-performance vehicles and those all-important modifications. You’ll also get to hear about her acting and other interests. This is a real mixed bag of the usual car content plus curveballs like ‘finding the guys who stole my car and confronting them’. Watch and learn, folks…

Mat Watson’s carwow

A motoring journalist since the 90s, Mat Watson could probably give Clarkson a few tips or even run a few rings around him. His career took an unexpected turn into the world of car reviews and road tests after graduating with a chemistry degree, and he never stints on the tiny details. He’s got everyday news that’s clear and practical for all you enthusiasts, mechanics, and car buyers. He’s a fuss-free jargon buster.

The UK’s largest car marketplace, yes, but its YouTube channel drops a few new weekly car content gems. If you want to know what’s worth your time or a service, or you’re car mad and you like to know what’s buying and selling, park up here for the drive-in movie. Slick videos made to entertain threaten to send you down a rabbit hole at any given moment – we’re talking drag races and other car adventures.

Fifth Gear

This started life as a Channel 5 series, and while Jane MacDonald cruises away, this cruise control content can now be found solely on YouTube. Close to one million subscribers can’t be wrong, and you can sign up for its membership or view certain content for nowt. Hot topics include ‘Do you really need an SUV?’ and ‘The future of haulage’. Crash tests and smashes liven things up, just like Fifth Gear Recharged – the champion of electric vehicles. This is one of those evergreen channels whose content just keeps giving.

JayEmm on Cars

JayEmm, aka James Martin (not the celebrity chef), is a former cameraman turned car reviewer and authority on the subject that’s so clearly close to his heart. Like his chef counterpart, he is down-to-earth, and his relatable content brings variety and honesty to the table. That’s why he’s trusted, and given his background, his videos are often high quality and creative, adding a new dimension of interest.

Supercar Blondie

Alex Hirschi is the creative powerhouse behind Supercar Blondie, and 22 million subscribers tune in all the time for Alex’s take on supercards and cybertrucks. Originally from Australia, but now based in Dubai, Alex’s background is in radio, but she’s stepped out from behind the mic to become a huge internet sensation. On her YouTube channel, you’ll also find interviews with the likes of Paris Hilton, David Guetta, and Vin Diesel. Alex has a particular interest in luxurious cars, hence niche content, like the world’s first Rolls-Royce 6×6 Phantom!

Harry’s Garage

Brainchild of former EVO editor, Harry Metcalfe, whose passion for four wheels will move you too when you check out Harry’s Garage. There’s a charm about this channel, and it’s for you if you like the sound of content that bigs up road trips, auctions, cost breakdowns, and interviews. The Driver’s Seat with Harry Catchpole from Hagerty UK

The Driver’s Seat is fronted by Henry Catchpole, on a channel known for its high production values and focus on classic cars. Henry’s expert insight is poured into rare machines with much attention to detail, so it’s a must-watch for heritage buffs who enjoy storytelling and an infectious passion. Much of this content is evergreen, so you can keep watching and re-watching and getting something new from it each time.

Shmee150

Shmee150 is none other than British supercar vlogger Timothy John Burton. He’s garnered north of 2.8 million subscribers, whom he takes with him on luxury motoring adventures. He’s suave and polished style, and videos include everything from a tour of his private (or not so) car collection, to his first drive in a Lamborghini Temerario, and kind of everything in between. That’s dedication for you.

Mighty Car Mods

These antipodean petrol heads produce stonking content for both lovers of DIY and mod workshop fans. This channel was started by Marty and Moog back in 2007 when they were filming car videos on Marty’s mum’s driveway. They’ve come a long way since then, and these days you can see their adventures and understand why, after a few watches, their irreverent style captures so much attention. We’re talking ‘Old Hilux restorations’ and ‘2 Guys, One Kebab’. The mind boggles.

Throttle House

Home of car reviews and track tests, courtesy of Thomas and James Engelsam. This is a sharper kind of mainstream car content that’s also aimed a bit more at the luxury end of the market. Plenty of entertaining food for thought for lovers of speed, precision, plus the odd pitstop where they tackle legalities. This pair has also recently crossed over into TV, bringing the weight of their expertise to The Grand Tour Crew!
